Dear members,
Tomorrow, we honor Juneteenth — a day of liberation, resilience, and reflection.

On June 19, 1865, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, enslaved people in Galveston, Texas, were finally informed of their freedom. Juneteenth is more than a date in history — it is a symbol of justice delayed but never denied, and a reminder of the work that still lies ahead.

In the real estate world, we are proud to partner with Metro South Atlanta Realtists, a local chapter of the National Association of Real Estate Brokers, whose mission is to advance Democracy in Housing!

At MSAR, we stand in solidarity with our members, neighbors, and communities in recognizing this powerful moment. Let us continue striving toward equity, unity, and opportunity for all.

In observance of Juneteenth, the MSAR office will be closed on Friday, June 19.
We will resume normal operations on Monday, June 22nd, at 9am.

The last couple days have been a whirlwind and there’s more to come! Our leaders have sat in on NAR committee meetings, attended forums and keynotes, had productive and sometimes tough conversations, celebrated the Georgia Association of REALTORS® winning the Presidents Cup for RPAC, watched GAR leaders get inducted into the RPAC Hall of Fame, celebrated NAR’s Fair Housing Champions, and networked with professionals from around the world. For us, the networking conversations and idea sharing has been phenomenal. The main stage sessions are always great, but getting to share resources and learn from people who have pioneered their respective areas of expertise is so valuable to bring right back home to Metro South. And the best part is….. WE ARENT DONE! Tomorrow we will travel up to Capitol Hill to meet with Federal Legislators and their staff to advance bipartisan goals that drive home our mission: Empowering REALTORS for success and Protecting Private Party Rights. Stay tuned!

The last couple days have been a whirlwind and there’s more to come! This June, Metro South Association of REALTORS celebrates Pride Month. We stand in solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ Community and continue to do the important work of making homeownership accessible to all people.

Why it matters in real estate:
1. While the U.S. Supreme Court generally rules that sexual orientation and gender identity discrimination is unlawful under the protected class, “Sex,” these are not considered protected classes in Federal Law or State Law in at least 25 states. For years, REALTORS have advocated Nationally for adding sexual orientation and gender identity to the protected classes outlined in the Fair Housing Act. These protections are important to further codify equal opportunity and fight discrimination against members of this community.
2. From our daily work, we know that creating equal access to all people, free from discrimination, steering, and bias in professional services, strengthens the housing market and supports consumers and practitioners in the field.

What actions you can take to support these initiatives.
1. Get involved with the LGBTQ+ Real Estate Alliance, a NAR multicultural partner, whose vision is to create a world free of housing discrimination.
2. Get educated by participating in a Bias Override training to learn about how implicit bias affects our day to day interactions and informs how others experience us. REALTOR members also have access to the At Home With Diversity Certification, which shows clients and peers a commitment to equitable access in professional services.
3. Get connected with local LGBTQIA+ organizations or practitioners to learn about how housing discrimination has affected consumers and practitioners in the LGBTQIA+ Community.

To our members, you belong here and we see you. To our allies, we thank you for your continued support and commitment to learn about making our communities more inclusive and welcoming for all.
