I have been a home inspector for 10+ years but I have never had anything scare me as much as I was scared today. Keep in mind that I have been run out of numerous crawl spaces and attics by skunks, opossum, racoons, foxes, wasps and snakes. Your life changes when you find yourself standing eye to eye with a rattlesnake at 12 inches or less in an attic. Thank goodness he had been mounted for 40 years and the attic was flooded, had it not been, I would have gone through the ceiling joints onto the garage floor. Yup, bad words came from my mouth and I had to apologize from the buyer and seller when I got down.

Is your inspector willing to squeeze through a hole the size of his shoe for you? That was rough and I seriously considered calling the fire department to help me get out.

There is a product called a split boot for this application and this is not it. Please do your research and not hire the cheapest contractor, there is a reason why they are cheap. Saving a few bucks now could cost you thousands in the future.
