From as far back as I can remember, I have been taught, as most of us have, not to pick my nose. Never has this been harder than it was this past Friday. After going to Baylor, Scott, and White in Garland for my annual bloodwork, EKG, and sonogram on my heart, Alicia and I went to BBQ in McKinney for our dinner. I had been instructed to fast before my labs so to say I was hungry was an understatement. I have eaten Hutchins BBQ several times but had never taken the time to go inside to eat. When we pulled up, there was a long line waiting to drive thru and grab a meal to go. We opted to dine in and it was not disappointing. We had ribs, brisket and jalapeño-cheddar sausage. The sides were very good as well and then the complimentary desserts being banana pudding and peach cobbler was outstanding. If you love BBQ as much as I do, do not pass up and opportunity to experience some of the best if not the very best BBQ in the DFW area. I going to go out on a limb and say this is quite possibly some of the best in the state. And back to the nose picking, on the way home, I found myself constantly placing my fingers near my nose to get just one more sniff of that fine BBQ. Go there and enjoy!!!

The world of technology is always growing and changing and with that growth and change comes new ideas and improvements. One improvement, that has made its way into the real estate space, is 3D home tours. 3D tours have been extremely useful in helping potential buyers narrow down which houses they might like to purchase. However, they should never fully replace a standard walk-through. There are many bits of information that these tours can’t provide. Such as, how the house smells or how loud the highway noise is. If you think you’ve found the right house for you, never neglect to give it a good, thorough, in-person walkthrough.

The house is quiet, the air is still, and no one has moved in yet. Perfect time for cleaning! Chances are, the previous homeowner did not have the home deep cleaned before moving out. This is the best opportunity to have the floors mopped, the toilets cleaned, the shower scrubbed, the sink disinfected, and the lightbulbs changed. I know cleaning isn’t the most fun thing in the world for most people but trust me, you’ll thank me when you start off your homeowning journey with a “clean slate”, literally!

Where your home is located can have a big impact on its value as well as your comfort while living there. Some helpful things to know before moving into an area are the value of neighboring houses, the distance from the nearest schools and school zones, and the local crime rate. Buying real estate is a big commitment so be sure you know as much as possible before you close the deal.

The question “What if?” can be haunting, especially for some new homeowners. What if the refrigerator stops working? What if the sink backs up? What if the AC breaks? All valid questions. A way you can alleviate some of these woeful concerns is to ask your local real estate agent for the name of a trusted home warranty program. Home warranties can’t cover everything but they can cover enough to give you peace of mind and a good safety net.

Information is GOLD! That is why it is important to have the owner, of any real estate you are interested in, provide you with a full written disclosure regarding any repairs, remodels, and previous damages such as leaks, termites, and fires. Another great practice is to contact the city or county the home resides in and request the property’s permit history, zoning, HOA restrictions and payments, and anything else available. All of this will help you make sure you are buying a good home and a sound investment.

Patience is the name of the game! I know renovations can be exciting and many people are anxious to start right away, but the last thing you want is to complete a project, only to wish you never made the changes at all. Give it some time. Live there for a while. What you were in a hurry to change on day 1 might turn into something you like on day 365.
