When You Feel Like Quitting
I know there are some of you right now who are discouraged.
Business is slow. The phone isn’t ringing as much as it used to. Closings aren’t on the calendar. Maybe you are looking at your bank account and wondering, Can I keep doing this?
I understand. Bills still have to be paid, and families still have to be taken care of.
But before you decide that real estate isn’t working anymore, remember this: A slow season does not mean you are a failure.
I have been in this business for 50 years, and I have seen good markets, bad markets, high interest rates (19%), low interest rates, recessions, housing booms, and times when we wondered where the next closing was coming from.
They all passed.
One thing I have learned is that when business gets slow, you cannot sit and wait for business to find you. You have to go find the people.
Call the people you know. Check on past clients. Write a handwritten note. Go to lunch with someone. Attend your office meetings. Get involved in your community. Get out of the house and around people.
And don’t make every conversation about real estate.
Build relationships. Help people. Be interested in them. The business will follow.
I have never liked the idea of working just for the money. If your only thought is, I need a closing, people can feel it. Instead, think: Who can I help today?
Sometimes the difference between the agent who makes it and the agent who quits isn’t talent.
It’s who keeps going when there isn’t much happening.
So if you’re discouraged right now, don’t disappear. Don’t sit home and worry.
Get up. Get dressed. Get out. And go find somebody you can help.
You may be closer to your next closing than you think.
With Love,
Mama Liz. ❤️
