βοΈπ¨ Hurricane season officially begun this week in SC π΄. I recently shared this with my client database, but wanted to also share here!
- My Top 5 Hurricane Survival Tips -
1. Video Your Property & Save Insurance Infoπ½οΈ : Walk through your home today and take a continuous video of every room, including electronics, furniture, and major appliances. Store this footage digitally in the cloud alongside your insurance policy numbers and agent contact info so you can access it instantly if you need to file a claim.
2. Fill Your Bathtub with Waterππ½: Before the storm hits, thoroughly clean and fill your bathtubs. While not for drinking, this supply is crucial for manually flushing toilets, washing hands, and basic cleaning if municipal water services or well pumps fail.
3. Keep Fix-a-Flat in Your Carπ©: Post-storm roads are often littered with roofing nails, shattered glass, and debris. Keeping a can or two of emergency tire sealant in your trunk ensures you won't be stranded with a flat tire when emergency assistance is backed up.
4. Close All Interior Home Doorsπͺ: If a window or exterior door breaches during high winds, it drastically increases internal pressure, which can lift your roof. Closing all interior doors compartmentalizes the pressure, structurally reinforcing your home and reducing total damage.
5. If Cell Towers Are Down, Try Your Carπ±π: If local cell towers fail or overload during a blackout, don't panic. Car-based cellular adapters and built-in vehicle Wi-Fi systems frequently use different internal antennas or secondary bands that can sometimes catch a weak signal when your handset cannot.
