The Mount Prospect Public Works Department is hosting a Household Hazardous Waste drop-off event for Mount Prospect residents.

📝 Appointment required (no walk-ins)

This event is for Mount Prospect residents only. No business or commercial waste will be accepted.

Accepted items include:
Aerosol paints, antifreeze, cleaning products, drain cleaners, gasoline, herbicides, insecticides, latex paint, lawn & garden chemicals, mercury items, oil-based paint, paint thinners, pesticides/poisons, pool chemicals, propane cylinders, solvents, and used motor oil.

Not accepted:
Agricultural/commercial waste, ammunition, explosives, fire extinguishers, fireworks, medical waste, lead acid batteries, smoke detectors, and more.

🎨 Leftover paint? Recycle it the right way!

Old paint cans don’t belong in your trash. Thanks to the Illinois Paint Stewardship Act, residents can recycle eligible paint through the program offered by PaintCare.

Paint recycling helps reduce waste, protect the environment, and give leftover paint a second life.

The Village partners with Simple Recycling to provide residents with a convenient way to keep textiles out of landfills and give items a second life. 🌎

Safely dispose of your confidential documents at the SWANCC Document Destruction Event hosted by the Village of Mount Prospect.

🗓 Saturday, August 1, 2026
🕗 8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
📍 Mount Prospect Public Works Facility
1700 W. Central Road

This event is open only to residents of SWANCC member communities. Documents will be securely cross-shredded on-site and then recycled into new paper products.

Residents may bring up to six file-size boxes or paper grocery bags of confidential paper documents, including old tax records, bank statements, and medical records. Please remember to remove binders and plastic covers before arriving.
