Everyone talks about why buying a co-op can be complicated. But let’s talk about why a co-op might actually be the right choice for you.
1. Depending on the building and market, co-ops can offer a lower purchase price than comparable condos.
2. You’re buying into a building with shared spaces, rules, and a community structure.
3. Your maintenance may cover things like building expenses, property taxes, and other services—so you need to look at the whole financial picture, not just the monthly number.
4. If you’re planning to live there and aren’t looking to immediately rent it out or make major renovations, some of the restrictions may not be a dealbreaker.
CO-OP OR CONDO?
The right answer depends on you.
