It smelled like a dumpster full of rotten meat, fermented sewage, and a thousand forgotten eggs left to bake in the sun all wrapped in a warm, wet blanket of death.

🔥 Why does a brick chimney need a liner?

This is a great example of what can happen when a masonry chimney is used without a proper liner.

This chimney is heavily worn and deteriorated, with years of exposure to combustion gases and moisture contributing to the deterioration of the masonry.

A liner helps protect the chimney, maintain proper venting, and safely contain combustion byproducts.

Even if the chimney only serves a furnace or water heater, proper flue lining matters.
