Garden State ASHI

Garden State ASHI We are the Garden State chapter of ASHI; The American Society of Home Inspectors. Helping home buyers to be comfortable with their home purchase.

In 1976, a group of visionary home inspectors with the common goal of building consumer awareness and enhancing the professionalism of their field established the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI). This not-for-profit professional association for home inspectors made its first order of business to establish and advocate high standards of practice and a strict code of ethics for the member

community. The Mission of ASHI is To set and promote standards for property inspections and to provide the educational programs needed to achieve excellence in the profession and to meet the needs of our members. ASHI is the most respected professional association for home inspectors in North America. Through ASHI’s continued efforts, ASHI's Standards of Practice—covering all of a home's major systems—are now part of many pieces of state legislation and are recognized by consumers as the authoritative standard for professional home inspection.

In Memoriam

The New Jersey home inspector community recently lost two members who contributed greatly to our profession.

Bill Kibbel was a valued member of the Southern NJ ASHI Chapter. Bill was always an involved member of the board and a trusted instructor who generously shared his knowledge with fellow inspectors. His dedication to education and to strengthening the inspection community will be remembered by many who had the privilege of learning from and working alongside him.
Memorial services for Bill have not yet been announced.

Barry Benevento, a former member of the Garden State ASHI Chapter, was also part of the inspection community that helped shape and support our profession over the years.

Visitation for Barry will be held at Old Bridge Funeral Home, 2350 Route 516, Old Bridge, NJ 08857, on Thursday, March 12, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM and Friday, March 13, 2026 beginning at 9:30 AM. Prayers will be held Friday at 10:00 AM, followed by burial at Glendale Cemetery in Bloomfield.

Please join us in keeping the families, friends, and colleagues of Bill and Barry in your thoughts during this difficult time. Their contributions to the inspection profession and their presence in our community will not be forgotten.
