There will be a public hearing on Plan Rutherford at the Historic County Courthouse, located in the center of the Public Square in Murfreesboro, on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 6:00 PM.

As this process nears completion, two critical issues remain unresolved: (1) the proposed five-acre minimum lot size in the Rural Preserve part of the county and (2) the one-unit per acre minimum in the Rural Living part of the county. Requiring acre minimum lots in the designated areas of the county would have serious unintended consequences, particularly by preventing generational living. It would limit families’ ability to build homes for their children or aging parents on land they already own, undermining long-standing rural traditions and property rights.

This is our opportunity to speak up and ensure the plan reflects what matters most to our community. Please attend the public hearing if you are able.
