Have you been to an event at Center Stage in Downtown Murphy NC yet? ❤️

I have to say, I just love what this new space has brought to our community. Completed earlier this year, Center Stage has really helped create a true Town Square in the heart of downtown…a place to gather, visit with friends, listen to music and celebrate together.

We’ve already enjoyed so many wonderful free events here, from the Murphy Spring Festival and Murphy Art Walk to Fourth of July celebrations, Veterans events and the 9/11 remembrance.

And there’s one more Murphy Mountain Music concert this year! 🎶

This Thursday, September 17, from 6:30–8:30 PM, come downtown, bring a lawn chair and enjoy Wyatt Espalin and the Riverstones.

I love seeing people come together in this space. It’s the kind of place where you run into a friend, meet someone new, listen to some good music and just enjoy being part of the community.

These are the things that make Murphy such a special place to call home. ❤️

One of the things I love about our community is the incredible talent we have right here in Murphy.

We are so lucky to have so many top-notch salons and beauty professionals, and one of my favorites is Urban Salon & Spa in Downtown Murphy NC ... a place I’m proud to call my salon!

Katherine and Sam Gulizia purchased this historic building in 2018 and created Urban Salon & Spa. They were immediately drawn to the character and history of the building, including the original wood floors, beautiful tin ceiling and the unique marble construction. The building was constructed using marble tailings from the local blue marble used to build the Cherokee County Courthouse.

Today, Urban Salon offers hair care, manicures, pedicures and esthetics. Katherine is also a stylist at the salon, in addition to the wonderful group of self-employed independent professionals working from the salon:

He has created a clever space to display and sell them, and he’s also hoping to begin hosting tournaments in the near future!

As someone who loves Murphy and the people who make our community special, I’m always excited to shine a light on our locally owned businesses. Urban Salon is a wonderful example of a historic Downtown Murphy building being given new life while providing a home for talented local entrepreneurs.

And, of course, I’m especially happy to support a business where my daughter-in-law Kailey is part of the talented team! ❤️

🍂 Cooler weather means it’s time to get outside! 🥾🌲

One of our favorite short hikes near Murphy is Panther Top Fire Tower. Located in the Ranger area of Cherokee County, this beautiful hike is a little over a mile each way and follows a well-maintained U.S. Forest Service road. Park at the gate, lace up your hiking shoes and head uphill toward the tower.

At the top, you’ll discover the historic Panther Top Fire Tower, built in 1940 by the Civilian Conservation Corps and listed on the National Historic Lookout Register. The 30-foot tower sits atop a 2,293-foot summit and offers spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and Lake Hiwassee. (Cherokee Co N.C.)

During select weekends in October, the tower is open for visitors to climb into the enclosed lookout and chat with volunteers. (Watch for announcements from the Nantahala National Forest Service.) Even when the lookout itself is closed, you can still climb the stairs for a fantastic vantage point. And from the open summit, you can enjoy an impressive 360-degree view of the mountains around you.
