RALEIGH, N.C. (WGHP) — Flags will be flying at half-staff to honor the loss of a North Carolina law enforcement official.

According to a release from the North Carolina Department of Administrative Advisory, flags in the state will be lowered on Tuesday to honor Officer Francisco Paul Flattes.

Stein ordered all US and North Carolina flags at state facilities to be lowered on Tuesday and to remain lowered for the whole day to honor Flattes, a Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office detention officer. Flattes was a 4-year-old veteran of the department who was killed Monday.

“I was deeply saddened to learn of Francisco Paul Flattes’ tragic murder. Our law enforcement officers go above and beyond the call of duty to keep us safe, and tragically yesterday Detention Officer Flattes paid the ultimate price,” Stein said in a release. “I am grateful to western North Carolina law enforcement and the Highway Patrol for their quick response. Anna and I are praying for his family and community as they grieve his loss. May his memory be a blessing.”
