Labor Day weekend has come and gone, and so has many of our programs😢But wait, it's not all over! Year-round, come snow (in the winter, of course) or sun, we have North Grove Guided Hikes Saturdays at 11:30am. The North Grove Trail is a 1.7 mile, accessible loop with approximately 100 giant sequoias.

There are also a couple more guided hikes through September! Come on the Thursday Bird Walk for an introduction to birding and a peaceful walk around the North Grove area; meet at 9:30 at the Visitor Center. On Saturdays and Sundays, meet at the South Grove trailhead at 10am for the South Grove Guided Hike. This moderate hike is 5 - 5.5 miles but takes you to our biggest trees.

For Day 2, we're revealing the name of this beautiful bottle - LANTERNA. Our owner Bonnie went down the history rabbit hole when determining a name that nodded to the rich transatlantic tapestry of this time-honored distilled spirit. Not only do its roots run deep in Hinterhaus' home of Calaveras County, but she discovered ties to her own family history which made it even richer.

🔍What began along the Ligurian coast 🇮🇹 made its way to our neck of the Sierra Nevada mountains during the California Gold Rush.

Tune in every day to our Stories and Feed through Sept 23 for the story of this upcoming bottle, clues and sneak peak images! Then, add an October date to your calendar to enjoy fall in the mountains and sip & buy this bottle!

It’s Friday afternoon and I’ve been playing in the kitchen again. 🍹

This time, not with dinner. 😂

I had tequila and ginger beer on my mind, but of course, working at The Spice Tin, I couldn’t just leave it at that.

So I made a simple syrup with cardamom…and oh my gosh, this turned out GOOD.

The cardamom gives the drink just a little warmth without taking away from the fresh lime and spicy ginger beer. And with these cooler evenings starting to roll in, it feels just right.

Here’s what I did:

Cardamom Simple Syrup
½ cup sugar
½ cup water
8–10 green cardamom pods, lightly crushed

Heat the sugar and water until the sugar dissolves, add the cardamom, take it off the heat and let it sit for about 15–20 minutes. Strain and let it cool.

Then for the cocktail:

2 oz tequila
½ oz fresh lime juice
½ oz cardamom simple syrup
4–5 oz ginger beer

Pour it all over ice, give it a stir and add a lime.

I think this one might be a keeper. 😉
