Good to know!

Beach days are coming! Remember - sand dollars are alive (as are starfish), please keep them in their ocean homes.

Living sand dollars are hairy and darker in color. After they die, they become smooth and white after being bleached out by the sun. If you find one and are unsure whether or not it is alive, please leave it be. Better safe than sorry!

Also, if you find a sand dollar that looks alive but is missing a piece, leave it in the ocean. Like starfish, sand dollars can regrow pieces of themselves that get broken off and make a full recovery. Please spread the word!
