The iconic World War II submarine USS Silversides has arrived at Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding’s Sturgeon Bay shipyard for a planned three-month preservation project.

The work is intended to support the vessel’s long-term preservation and includes hull cleaning, steel renewal, exterior coating, and other essential maintenance.

One of the most decorated U.S. submarines of World War II, the USS Silversides is owned and maintained by the USS Silversides Submarine Museum in Muskegon.

The museum is receiving support in this important effort from the professionals at Valkor Energy Services. Projects of this nature require careful planning, skilled tradespeople, and extensive experience maintaining complex steel vessels, especially historic vessels, where preservation goals and technical requirements must be carefully balanced.

The USS Silversides is now in the hands of Fincantieri Bay Shipbuilding, regarded as one of the nation’s most experienced, trusted, and safety-focused shipyards.
