When buying a house, ask yourself these things. Things that you probably don’t think of, but definitely make a difference.
1. Pay Attention to Natural Light
This affects your mood more than people realize.
Visit during daylight and ask:
Which direction does the house face?
Is it dark all day?
Are neighboring houses blocking light?
Especially important in cloudy areas.
2. Test Your Commute Before Buying
Actually drive:
work commute
grocery routes
gym/school/daycare routes
A house that’s “20 minutes away” can become 45 minutes in real life.
3. A beautiful home could cost a fortune monthly.
Ask for:
average electric bill
gas bill
water/sewer
4. Visit the House at Different Times of Day
A quiet neighborhood at 1 PM can feel very different at:
rush hour
school pickup time
late at night
weekends
You’re not just buying the house—you’re buying the environment.
5. Trash Collection Day
I bet this is something you didn’t think about. Does the house have a steep driveway? Trust me you’ll never look at a house with a steep driveway the same again.
Does it have a long driveway? How far do I have to lug my trash and recycle bins on pickup day?
Do I have to take my trash to the dump?
Save this if buying a home is even on your radar.
