PROPERTY TAX BILLS & ASSESSMENT NOTICES

The Horry County Assessor’s Office is announcing a change in this year’s mailing schedule.

Property owners in Horry County can expect to see both the property tax bill and the assessment notice in October 2023. Both will be sent in the same envelope. Everyone will have rights to appeal from October 1, 2023 to January 15, 2024.

You will see an assessment notice if you had an increase over $1,000 from your property’s previously assessed value. This is not a reassessment year, so this applies to anyone who added a new improvement or acreage to their existing parcel. Most Horry County property owners will only get the bill.

This is different from previous years where the assessment notice was mailed out in July. This change is due to the office implementing a new software system.

This change is only happening for this year. The assessor’s office plans to be back to the regular schedule next year, with the assessment notice mailing in July and the tax bill mailing in October.

Reminder: it is important that property owners review their assessment notices promptly and thoroughly, as the assessed value directly affects the amount of taxes you may owe.
