There’s more to an open house than deciding whether you like the home:

• Look beyond the décor. Does the layout, storage, and space fit your everyday life?
• Ask about costs and condition. HOA dues, property taxes, and the age of the roof and major systems can help you understand the bigger picture.
• Explore your options. A knowledgeable host can point you toward other homes for sale nearby—even ones that aren’t holding an open house that day.
• Get to know the agent. The host may be the listing agent or another agent looking to connect with buyers. Ask who they represent. If you’re looking for an agent, notice how well they listen, explain, and know the area. Already working with someone? Let the host know.
