Ka‘ū… should we try to recruit a vet? 🐾

Because apparently driving forever with a sick dog or cat is just part of rural island life. 😅

We keep hearing the same thing from people in Ka‘ū:
**“We need veterinary services down here.”**

So instead of just saying that over and over… we started reaching out.

We’ve emailed veterinary organizations, contacted vet-related groups, posted in Facebook communities, and started asking around to see if there’s a veterinarian or established practice out there that might be crazy enough—in the best possible way—to say:

**“Hmm… maybe Ka‘ū.”**

And then we started playing with the idea of what the former Shaka property in Nā‘ālehu could look like as a veterinary clinic.

No, this is NOT a real vet clinic yet. 😄
These are just concept renderings.

But sometimes somebody has to throw the idea out there first.

A little community work today from Neal Genge and Teena Genge of United Country Real Estate – Hawaiʻi Lifestyle Properties. 💚
We spent the day at the OKK Market grounds moving dirt, picking rocks, leveling things out, and spreading grass seed to help get the grounds looking good again.
It was dirty work, but good work — and we’re always happy to pitch in when it helps our Kaʻū community. 🌱🌺

Just sharing this so everyone with a Big Island vacation rental is aware of the new rules that took effect September 1. 💛

If you have an Airbnb, VRBO, or other short-term rental, it’s a good idea to take a few minutes to check the new Hawaiʻi County registration requirements and make sure everything is in order.

There’s still time to get squared away, and hopefully this helps keep anyone from being caught off guard later.
