Key Vote Alert: Senate Bill 484
On behalf of the Chamber of Commerce
"I want to bring your attention to a fast-moving bill in Raleigh that poses a serious threat to Currituck County businesses and citizens, and could significantly impact local property taxes.

The Issue:
The NC House of Representatives has stripped and rewritten Senate Bill 484. It is now an explicit ban that stops our county from using tourism occupancy tax revenue to fund beach public safety, ocean rescue, and law enforcement during our peak seasonal spikes. This bill deliberately attempts to overturn the unanimous NC Supreme Court ruling that protected Currituck County’s right to use these funds for visitor safety.

The Consequence:
If this bill passes, the massive cost of providing emergency services to millions of seasonal visitors will be shifted directly onto local property owners and year-round small businesses through higher local taxes. Alternatively, vital public safety services will face severe budget cuts, endangering our visitors and damaging our reputation as a safe premier destination.

Taking Action:
The House is fast-tracking this bill, but we can kill it in the Senate. Coastal Senators understand our unique operational needs. We are organizing a massive, coordinated push targeting Senate Rules Chair Bill Rabon and our regional representative, Senator Norman Sanderson, to urge they vote NO on concurrence when the bill arrives on the Senate floor.

Your Action Item Right Now (Takes 2 Minutes):

Open the Sample letter Here template.
Fill in the brackets with your specific name, title, and business address.
Copy and paste the text into an email.
Send it immediately to both coastal senators:

🏌️‍♂️⛳ What a Day for a Great Cause! ⛳🏌️‍♀️

The 36th Annual Outer Banks Association of REALTORS® (OBAR) Charity Golf Tournament was a tremendous success on Friday, May 29, 2026, at the beautiful Kilmarlic Golf Club.

Congratulations to our 1st Place Team Arbor Home Loans with Captain Daniel Caro, and players Kristine Baum, Dave Burchett and Wendy Nelson.

Thanks to the incredible support of our golfers, sponsors, volunteers, Community Partners, and donors, this year's tournament raised funds for OBAR's Scholarship Fund and Disaster Relief Fund—programs that make a meaningful difference throughout our community and managed by the Outer Banks Community Foundation.

For 30 years, OBAR's Scholarship Fund has helped local students pursue their educational dreams, awarding nearly 200 scholarships totaling more than $300,000. The Disaster Relief Fund continues to provide assistance to individuals and families facing hardships following disasters and unexpected emergencies.

A special thank you to our Tournament Co-Chairs Kathie Nesbitt and Kaye Jones, volunteers, sponsors, and every participant who helped make this event possible. Your generosity and commitment to giving back are what make our REALTOR® community so special.

A special thanks to Ashley Wood for the great photos!
