A Party Chief will independently lead the survey crew in the performance of technical work in boundary, topography, ALTA, right of way, and construction surveys for clients under the supervision of the Professional Land Surveyors. They will direct Field Technicians in the completion of their duties and fulfill other responsibilities as directed, including - the operation and maintenance of survey equipment, recording detailed field notes, data collection, field calculations, working with other staff and interfacing with clients.
Duties:
- Produce accurate surveys as detailed by PLS
- Research previous surveys as well as any/all pertinent building documentation
- Create plan for accurate determination of distances, gradients, and other necessary components of survey
- Provide excellent detailed reporting and field notes as required
In the Office*
· Full understanding and efficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3d
· Understanding perform record and deed research, deed plotting and map checks
· Ability to draw record into AutoCAD i.e., deeds and record maps
· Perform quality control checks of drawings and documents prepared by others
· Prepare documents, write legals, and prepare record drawing for PLS review
· Make redline corrections
· Experience in calculating survey layout from construction drawing for field crew staking
· Experience with Microsoft office and basic computer skills
· Ability to learn and implement survey software IE Trimble Business Center
· Provide quality customer service
· Ensure proper work site cleanup
· Work well with others
· Assist in training of new employees
In the Field
· Experienced in surveying concepts and protocols
· Experience with GPS, total stations, and other survey equipment (Trimble a plus)
· Ability to read and interpret construction plans and staking sheets
· Have a basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn other software programs, as needed
· Possess the ability to learn and apply basic computer, technical and mathematical skills
· Ability or willingness to learn to operate, maintain and safeguard tools and field equipment such as GPS equipment, Total Station, Knowledge of RUS specifications (Underground Distribution) and assemblies and NISC is preferred
· Valid driver’s license
· A strong desire for working outdoors
· Accurate attention to detail
· Ability to walk through rough terrain
· Ability to read and follow paper maps
· A work ethic that provides the ability to work solo without constant supervision
· Ability to work overtime from time to time
· Ability to carry 40 lbs. of equipment over and across rough terrain
Preferred Qualifications:
Education/Experience: A combination of education and experience determined to be suitable for this position. 3+ years of experience in surveying to include boundary, topographic, and subdivision surveying as well as staking. 1+ years of Party/Crew Chief experience preferred
Knowledge: 3+ years of suitable software and survey equipment use.
Communication: Must be able to communicate with field tech and other staff as necessary. Performing tasks as directed to do so presented by supervisor or other superiors.
Wages commensurate with experience.
