Plainfield just grew a pumpkin that weighs more than some cars. 🎃

Local grower Phil Groenewold’s giant pumpkin tipped the scale at 2,492.5 pounds, breaking the Illinois record by 347 pounds.

It was weighed at the Bluegrass Championship Weigh-Off in Kentucky and is currently the heaviest pumpkin weighed in the United States during the 2026 Great Pumpkin Commonwealth season.

How do you even move this thing? We struggle getting regular pumpkins out of the grocery cart. 😂

Two new development proposals are headed to an Oswego public hearing.

One would allow a self-storage facility on about 7.5 acres at Station Drive and Lewis Street.

The second involves annexation, rezoning and special-use approval for a utility-scale solar and battery energy storage project near Plainfield Road and Schlapp Road.

Important: These are proposals. They have not been approved.

The Planning & Zoning Commission hearing is Thursday, October 8 at 7 p.m. at Oswego Village Hall, 100 Parkers Mill.
