A small mortgage-rate reprieve brought more borrowers back into the market last week.

National mortgage applications rose 3.6% as the average 30-year conforming mortgage rate eased from 6.81% to 6.77%. Purchase applications increased 3%, while refinance applications were up 5%.

For buyers in Naperville and the Western Suburbs, the takeaway is not to chase every weekly rate move—it is to be prepared when the right home and financing opportunity align. For sellers, improving affordability can help encourage interest, but pricing, presentation, and local market strategy still matter most.
