I've been seeing more talk about 50-year mortgages lately, and honestly, it's been sticking with me for all the wrong reasons.
People see a lower monthly payment and think it's a good deal, but they're not looking at what happens over the life of the loan. The payment might feel manageable now, but you end up paying so much more and building almost no equity for decades.

I ran the numbers on a $415,000 house with 20% down. With a 30-year mortgage at 6.5%, you'd pay around $420,000 in interest. Stretch that same loan to 50 years, and you're looking at nearly $810,000 in interest. That's close to $400,000 more just to keep the monthly payment lower.
