The second annual Trop Rock weekend takes over Margaritaville Beach Resort Fort Myers Beach October 1–4, with live music, tropical costumes, a Parrot Pageant, appearances from birds from the Bird Gardens of Naples, and fundraising for the Alzheimer’s Association. Last year’s inaugural event raised $7,000. How did I JUST discover Taberna Ole?! 🤦‍♀️🇪🇸 We finally checked it out during Sizzle Dining, and this is exactly why I love this event - it gets you out of your usual restaurant rotation and into local spots you might’ve been completely sleeping on. We tried the lobster bisque, Spanish Tapas Trio, Gambas al Ajillo, Paella, Alaskan cod… and finished with Basque cheesecake because obviously we’re not quitters. 😂 Safe to say, Taberna Ole is officially on my radar now. Florida luxury is a little different. 😂 Sure, the fancy stuff is nice… but if you really want to impress a Floridian, tell us the roof is newer, the windows are impact, there’s room for the boat AND the cars, and Publix is five minutes away. Sometimes the bigger risk is staying exactly where you are because you’re afraid of what might happen if you try. Moving to Florida is a big decision. 🥞 A NEW brunch spot just landed in Naples - and Chase may have already found the most important thing on the menu: the cookie dough waffle. 😂 I got invited to the soft opening of Another Broken Egg Cafe at the new Triangle Shoppes off Collier Boulevard, and we put the Southern-inspired menu to the test. We tried the Biscuit Beignets with honey marmalade, I had the Monterey Omelette and a strawberry lemonade spritzer mocktail, and Chase handled dessert-for-breakfast duties. Two hotel projects. Two unanimous votes. Two VERY different reactions from the Fort Myers Beach Local Planning Agency. 👀 DiamondHead Resort’s proposed expansion — including a new 10-story beachside tower — received a 5–0 recommendation for denial as presented. Meanwhile, the proposed Hideaway Village Boutique Hotel received a 5–0 recommendation for approval. The 30-room project would replace the former Hideaway Village Motel destroyed by Hurricane Ian, while also changing access off Estero Boulevard, adding a public sidewalk, and bringing back restaurant and commercial space. The takeaway? Fort Myers Beach redevelopment isn’t simply about building bigger. The details - traffic, access, public benefits, design, and how a project fits into the island -matter.
