Coastal Maine citizens of the mid-19th Century witnessed a rapid expansion of the textile industry on both aides of the S**o River. Ahead of Laconia and Pepperell establishing in Biddeford, the York Manufacturing Company on was growing on S**o (then Factory) Island. Today, three of those buildings serve as exemplars of smart repurposing, hosting residences, offices, and commercial spaces of wide appeal. The S**o Museum is Maine’s third oldest …housing over 10,000 artifacts of art, furniture, clothing, and tools. The italiante style building dates back to 1870 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
