Got a text today that made my whole week.

A while back I worked with a young guy, just out of trade school, looking to lease his first commercial space. He’d never done anything like this before, so we walked through the whole process together step by step, found him the right spot, got the deal done.

Today he sent me a picture of himself standing in his new space, thanking me for helping him get there.

Honestly, this is why I love what I do. It’s not just about square footage and lease terms, it’s watching someone’s dream turn into a real address they can point to and say “that’s mine.”

It all starts with relationships. You never know when a referral from a residential realtor turns into your next deal. Once we connect with the owner, we work out the lease rate per square foot and the sale price together, then get the listing agreement signed. From there I head out to the property for a full walkthrough, grab photos and drone footage for the marketing package, and pull together the key details — acreage, number of offices, bathrooms, and more. All of that gets sent to our marketing team along with a Google Earth screenshot showing where we want the sign placed.

11 months into my commercial real estate career, and here are the 3 biggest lessons so far 👇

🕐 Patience — this business moves on its own timeline, not yours. The deals you try to force never close.

✅ Verify your inquiries — not every lead is a real tenant. Qualify who they are and what they need first, and get clear on the details up front so assumptions don’t cost you later.

📞 Just make the call — every time I’ve debated picking up the phone and actually did, something came of it. A deal, a referral, a relationship. The call you don’t make is a guaranteed zero.
