National forests and grasslands are America's backyard. Most Americans live within 100 miles of a national forest.

Here, visitors camp under the stars in the parking lot of Grand Targhee Resort for the Wydaho Rendezvous Teton Bike Festival on the Caribou-Targhee National Forest northwest of Alta, Wyoming.

But despite his intellect, his parents say he’s just a bright-eyed child who revels in the joy of cartoons and laughter. https://www.nbc-2.com/article/mensa-vandan-patel/64552439

Look out, here comes the stank patrol.

Baby skunks come into the world in late spring without sight AND without spray. But within a few weeks, their eyes open, their legs start working, and their ability to spray their stank, comes online.

They won’t be out here launching stink bombs immediately, but by the time they’re toddling around with their siblings like a delinquent gang of stink kittens, their defensive weapon is fully armed and operational.

Surprise! On April 17, 2025, an aerial survey team from the Center for Coastal Studies saw North Atlantic right whale #2460 “Monarch” and her calf in Cape Cod Bay. The pair were approximately 2 miles north of Barnstable, Massachusetts.

Monarch was not seen in the traditional Southeast calving grounds this year. We’re not sure where or when the calf was born, making it an exciting addition at the end of the calving season! While it’s rare to first document a mom-calf pair outside of the Southeast calving grounds, this is the third time it happened this season.

Every single female North Atlantic right whale and calf are vital to this endangered species’ recovery. Researchers identified 11 calves this calving season. You can help protect these mom and calf pairs by staying alert on the water, and maintaining a safe distance (500 yards).
