Happening NOW: Interest rates 👉 simplified.

An interest rate is the “price” a lender charges a borrower for a loan. Just like a pair of jeans at your favorite store, every loan has a price tag. That price tag is the interest rate. But instead of dollars and cents, the price of borrowing a sum of money is a percentage of the total amount borrowed.

Interest rates rise and fall daily based on loan type (rates are typically lower for shorter-term loans), what the Feds are doing (the U.S. central bank), and, yes, inflation.

My clients often come to me feeling overwhelmed by the process of getting a mortgage. They tell me they’re confused and don’t know where to start. That’s why I make sure to guide them through the process step by step, so they can feel confident and secure in their decision to buy a home.

1) Determine your budget. Consider your income, debts, and down payment. Remember to be realistic. The last thing you want is more house than you can afford.
2) Get pre-approved so you’ll be ready to make an offer when you find a home you love.
3) Choose a lender and mortgage with terms that work for you. Don’t be shy - shop around!
4) Submit a mortgage application and wait for underwriting to review it. If approved, you’ll receive more paperwork outlining the terms of the loan.
5) Attend closing to sign the mortgage documents and pay closing costs.
6) Start making those monthly mortgage payments!

Selling Sunset on Netflix. I love it, but it’s seriously messing with would-be real estate agents.

Here’s the thing: Most agents don’t make millions, and certainly not right away. Shows like Selling Sunset make a career in real estate look effortless, part-time, and glamorous. And while I can’t imagine doing anything else, here’s a reality check about life as an agent.

It takes time to make money. Agents make around 2.5% on every sale. On a $300,000 house, that’s $7,500. Nice, but not millions.

You won’t really be your own boss…at first. New agents work under brokers to learn the ropes before going out on their own. You will be your own boss, but not from day 1.

You will work nights and weekends. Sure, you won’t be clocking in 8-5 pm, but you will need to be available when clients are — and that’s at night and on weekends.

Not all clients will be, shall I say, easy. Tensions *can* skyrocket. And folks deal with those emotions in all sorts of ways. If you’re gonna be in real estate, expect clients who need a double dose of your patience.

I love what I do, but it doesn’t much look like Selling Sunset. That? That just makes for good TV.
