VIENNA DAY 6: part 2

Well, it’s been a fast week here in Vienna. Between Leisa’s conference, special events we did get some time together to both explore but sometimes it feels like it all goes to fast and we have to rush.

Here’s a few pix from our afternoon together as we explored the 1k long, historic Naschmarket and rode the old school Ferris wheel Wiener Riesenrad, that was built in 1897. It was the tallest in the world from 1920-1985.

In between these two finds, we had a traditional lunch at Cafe Sperl that dates back to 1880. Cool cones inside but why not eat out on the patio with the cooler temps and breeze.

We finished off the afternoon with, you guessed small batch ice cream at the shop right next door to our hotel.

Time take a brief rest for the second and last formal event for this trip.

VIENNA DAY 6: Part 1

The Austrian National Library

Well this was def worth carving out time for.

The Austrian National Library houses a massive total collection of over 12.2 million items, which includes around 3.9 million printed books. Additionally, the famous baroque State Hall (Prunksaal) holds roughly 200,000 historical books printed between 1501 and 1850.

Here are a few pix from my morning walk over there.

The flowers at the little stand on the way have yet to disappoint.

Found some doors and another church or “kirche”, some street art and a cool Royal Enfield motorcycle before purchasing my ticket to what felt like traveling back in time.

There were some really cool old prints that may have been loose in some of the old books.

Anyway, it was really cool experience.

VIENNA DAY 5 - Part 2

Tonight’s event is the FIABCI World Prix d’Excellence Awards Ceremony Gala Dinner 2026…

Here are the last drops for the night.

What a treat to sit in a ballroom in a palace that dates back the the 13th century, surrounded by so many people from so many countries.

We were blessed to sit with and chat with a group of Hungarian architects who have a variety of housing projects going on in their country.

Not going to lie, we really enjoyed listening to them chat and joke with each other in the native language.

I’ve never felt so small but also included in the best possible way. If you’re a traveler, I think you know I’m talking about. Maybe it’s not about feeling small as it is about feeling connected with those are like minded. Either way, there is a joy that comes from that.

Our servers were fantastic and friendly. Our rider share drive home was from Ankara, Turkey and he was awesome… it was all around a fantastic evening.

I’ll post a link to the history of this building in the comments below for all the history nerds like us.

12am Friday here and I’m beat. Enjoy your day, sleep well wherever you are at.

🙏😎🙏

VIENNA: DAY 5 - Part 1

They pros and cons of a later start to the day.

Yes a little more rest however I didn’t sleep well last night and was only up slightly later this morning compared to the previous morning’s.

7:30 comes quickly and I was getting restless and gingery. No bother, I’ll just head down to our hotel restaurant and see what looks good.

Today it was Eggs Benedict I strand of an omelette made by Marcus. My phone was charging so maybe tomorrow I can snag a picture with him and what he prepares.

I’ve been really impressed with our breakfast buffet here this week.

But it’s not really fun without pix so moving on.

Yesterday was kind of scout day with options for things to do today. So we opted for a casual walk to the Museum Quarter to check out the Kunsthistorisches Museum.

As you can see the skies grew darker as we headed closer to the Museum. There were subtle hints of lightning but there were plenty of places to duck into in case we needed to ride out the storm but we made it to our destination no problem.

It was a lot to take in. You really need to spend a whole day to view everything and when your Leisa, you want to read everything. When your me, you want to see as much as possible. So we are always scanning but for different things.

After about 2.5-3 hours both our feet and legs started to hurt and we were hungry, so we headed out and strolled through the beautiful Volksgarten park as we made our way to Cafe Landtman.

Since the lunch menu was kind of boring, we opted for coffee and dessert.

She ordered the Viennese “Melange” - long espresso shot with foamed milk. I had the “Franziskaner” - long espresso shot . foamed milk. whipped cream. I’ve added their online menu below in the comments.

We spilt the famous Kaiserschmarrn with the plum jam style topping.

Here are some pix from the first part of our day.

We have an awards dinner so not sure if I’ll have any pix later.

🤩👍

VIENNA DAY 4: Part 3

Welcome to the evening edition.

Part of my day was thinking of places Leisa Wilcox, Global Real Estate Advisor would like to go tomorrow (Thursday) as we have the entire day free until the evening.

A das you know we really like food so I found, again by accident, one of the oldest run restaurants here in Vienna called GREICHENBEISL, which dates back to 1447 when it opened.

Upscale, rustic restaurant opened 1447, with past visitors including Schubert, Strauss & Mark Twain.

Afterwards we took a seven minute walk to a gelato and dessert bar I had also found out on my walk earlier called Dolce Pensiero.

Fun story: since it was so cold and breezy out I had shown the lady who helped at the helot counter my pictures from earlier this afternoon and that I wanted to bring Leisa here for dessert.

As they were cleaning up and preparing to close, she brought over a bag of these delicious looking croissants which we will have tomorrow. We are so full.

Anyway, what a great experience to add to this chapter and season of our lives.

VIENNA DAY 4: Part 2

Ok, so I may have recovered form the jet lag because I spent most of the day out and about.

While the skies were grey and drizzly at the start, the weather was a nice 62°. Perfect for shorts and sweatshirt and a rain jacket for extra layer if need be.

I will say today felt like a very special, spiritual soul cleansing kind of day.

I lost actual count but I feel like there were four churches is stumbled upon and each one was unique.

Overall it felt great to get out and walk around as much as I could until my left foot started to ache. Thank God for compression socks.

I won’t post all the pix as I already blew past my complimentary 5gig data limit w/T-mobile.

Grateful the gifts bestowed upon me as my dad and my grandparents would say.

Hope you enjoy

PS some slides may be out of order for the flow of the day. I have averaged 180+ avg frames per day and then photo edits and color corrections. It’s just so beautiful I can lose track easily.

VIENNA DAY 4: Part 1

I know for most people a crisp drizzly stroll might not be your jam but I don’t mind.

I had my ear buds in, Pink Floyd essentials playlist going and in no hurry.

Found a cool old book shop, plenty of small independent shops, sweets (big surprise), more statues, Moscot eye wear, hidden treasure and cool architecture on the way to my first stop at Cafe Landtman for some proper apfel strudel vanilleeis and an Überstürtzer Neumann.

VIENNA DAY 3: Part 2

After an afternoon crash it was time to get ready for our group dinner event prior to our private organ concert at St Stephen’s Cathedral.

We had an amazing experience at Box Wood Steak in the heart of the inner city, about a 5 min walk to our venue.

Ox tail croquettes on a spicy, cream sauce, meat filled dumplings, grilled, jumbo prawns and some fantastic steak options I was t able to grab pix of because we were all so hungry.

Our server Alexander was fantastic and the food and wine all savory and delicious.

Here are a few pix from the later part of the day

VIENNA DAY 3: Part 1.

Ok, first off, St Stephen’s Cathedral was amazing. I highly recommend to carve out three hours to really take it all in.

There are a few pix of the classic store fronts and some sweets as I make my way up to the cathedral.

I paid the $29 euros for the all inclusive ticket which was absolutely worth it for me if you enjoy taking lots of pictures, enjoy a guided audio tour on your phone.

The all inclusive includes, the 25-30 minute crypt tour which was really cool. Literally “cool” I don’t remember what the temps were but I was a bit chilly. But being warmer and humid yesterday it was a delightful break.

We weren’t allowed to take pix and I decided to be respectful so sadly I don’t have any.

But just imagine white arched caverns at the entry way below, lined with wooden caskets from the the 17th century filled with the bishops from this area.

There were also some all brick walled/lined catacombs as we went deeper with the screened off vaults filled with bones and skulls. Creepy but cool 😎! Our guide for the catacombs was great.

After that part was over I went to the north tower to check out the views. The inclusive ticket also includes both the north and south tower access. The north tower has a tiny little elevator and I opted for that one as I just didn’t have the energy for the 250+ stairs to manually climbed the south tower. Also my left foot might be bruised so I am taking things slower this trip.

Lastly, your ticket includes admission to the Dom Museum which has a mix of church artifacts from as early as the 15th century as well as some modern works as well.

I’ve tried to keep these in order as well as not overwhelm you with all the pictures I took. Like some 90+ frames shot.

Anyway, what a treat and a blessing to be able to spend time in a place that dates back to 1142.

I will post a link in the comments for anyone who wants to read more.

Oh, they have daily mass that are open to the public. I may go back today or tomorrow and take one in.

Enjoy!

VIENNA DAY 2:

After another delicious breakfast at the hotel we navigated our way with a short walk from the hotel to catch a tram/street car and headed towards Belvedere Palace.

The palace grounds and upper palace was massive.

Their art collection was impressive, especially the Gustav Klimt pieces was great. And there were quite a few I’d never seen or only remember as black and white plates in my Art History books in college.

We had wanted to visits St Stephen’s but they have a very short window of hours they are open.

So we opted to come back and grab some. Rest at the hotel to help with the jet lag.

Our evening event was held a really cool restaurant located at the base of a vineyard. There were quite a few that were dressed in traditional lederhosen and dresses which was really cool.

Anywho, here are some pix for yesterday’s events.
