In Nashville’s Edgehill neighborhood sits a piece of land tied to one of the most influential Black artists in the country: sculptor William Edmondson.

Welcome to Black History Month 🖤

This month, we honor the pioneers who helped shape industries, often without recognition or equal opportunity.

Today, we recognize Philip A. Payton Jr., widely known as the “Father of Black Harlem.” In the early 1900s, Payton founded one of the first Black-owned real estate companies in New York. His work helped Black families gain access to homeownership and fair housing at a time when segregation and discrimination were deeply entrenched in real estate.

His legacy reminds us that real estate has always been about more than property. It’s about access, opportunity, and generational impact.

As a Black real estate professional, I’m proud to continue building pathways to ownership, investment, and community empowerment.
