You pull up a hill, park the car, and then you see it—an 8-acre pond sitting quietly at the bottom of the property, surrounded by woods. Nobody else around.

Redwood Lake Cabin sleeps four. You'll find a king bed in the main room and a queen up in the loft. There's a covered porch that looks right out over the water, a hot tub, a fire pit, and a charcoal grill. Cook what you catch or whatever you brought.

Either way, nobody's rushing you.

Four miles from Nashville. Feels like it's forty. That's the point.

Recognize this cabin? We do! It's the beautiful The Farm Cabin, located just outside of Nashville and right in the heart of Brown County. You'll love staying here. You'll drive 20 minutes on a gravel road to get there. That's not a flaw; that's the point. Soaring Eagle sits on the backwater of Lake Monroe, and from the sunroom, you can actually see the water. One bedroom, a game room, a pool table, and a four-person hot tub. The kind of quiet that does something to your soul. Oh, and dogs are welcome. 🦅

Charlie Fox cut the logs himself on an old sawmill he owned as a young man, then built this cabin by hand between 1987 and 1990. The man learned construction building airstrips in Guam during WWII.

That's the kind of history that's in the walls here. 🪵

When they remodeled this place, they found old copies of the Indianapolis Star tucked in the walls as insulation. That led to a whole story—the woman who lived here, the two nickels her father made when he first settled Brown County, the lesson she shared with her paperboy about hard work.

That's where the name comes from.

Funny thing is, it's right downtown Nashville. Step off that 300-square-foot deck—the one with the black locust tree hanging over it—and you're a walk to everything. The hot tub's out there, too. It comes with a queen bed, a full kitchen, and sleeps four.

Small place. Good story. Hard to forget.

Funny thing is how close everything is. Hard Truth Hills is a walk away. So is downtown, the shops, the galleries, wherever you land for dinner. Then you're back and it's just the creek, the firepit 🔥, the hot tub, and nobody around.

There's a bear carved out front, done by a local artist. 🐻 You'll know the place when you see it. Bring the dog, he's welcome too.

This Saturday night, six bands play Hard Truth like they've got something to prove. They do. Rumble on the Rocks is a fan-voted competition, so the bands play and you decide who moves on toward the cash prizes and a spot at Amplify Nashville.

It runs 6 to 9 p.m. on the Hard Truth on the Rocks terrace, outdoors, and it's a short drive from just about any Moondance property. If you're already up here for the weekend, there's your Saturday night. If you're not, this is a decent reason to fix that.

The pool is opening for the season, which is really the whole reason to book 2 Hearthstones right now. Swim in the morning, walk straight into Yellowwood State Forest in the afternoon. The Scarce O' Fat trail runs 5.7 miles through the woods, and the trailhead is close enough that the car can stay parked all weekend.

It's a mid-century house with real architecture, the kind of place that's interesting just to be inside. Three bedrooms set far enough apart that nobody ends up on top of anybody, room for eight, a hot tub for after the trail.

Bring the dog. The whole place is yours.
