Last night’s Nashville Women Leading Real Estate event, sponsored by , was such a meaningful moment of reflection for me. I was incredibly honored to be recognized as a Leader of the Year—an acknowledgment that truly humbled me and reminded me how fortunate I am to do what I love alongside people who inspire me daily.

As this year winds down, I’m proud of the challenges we’ve navigated, the growth we’ve experienced, and the opportunities that have shaped us. I feel deeply grateful for my incredible team and the community I have here in Nashville—people who show up, uplift one another, and pour their hearts into this industry.

Being in a room full of so many strong, visionary female leaders was powerful and made me even more excited to keep pushing forward and growing alongside my team. It was a reminder of the impact we can have when we support each other and lead with purpose.

Thank you to everyone who has been a part of this journey. This experience was truly a highlight in my career and I am so excited for what’s ahead!

Over the past two weeks, some of our team members had the incredible opportunity to attend two powerful women’s empowerment events: The Executive Women in Leadership—Advancing Together for Greater Equity in 2025, hosted by Vanderbilt University and the Nashville Chamber of Commerce, and Women in Business Night, hosted by the Nashville Predators!

Both events were truly inspiring, sparking meaningful conversations and motivating us to take action. 💪 They brought together driven, passionate women dedicated to uplifting one another—championing equity, leadership, and growth in every aspect of life and business.

A huge shoutout to the phenomenal women who made these events possible—your leadership, vision, and commitment continue to inspire us all. 🙌

What Do You Think It Means To Be a Leader?

Recently while interviewing a new candidate for a role with our company, we were moving toward the conclusion of the interview and I asked if they had any other questions for me. It was getting close to lunch and while I was impressed with this potential hire I was also very hungry and slightly distracted. My Uber Eats was sweating in its bag seductively and I was ready to welcome my cauliflower tacos to their new home. This creative young person looked at me thoughtfully, hesitated for a split second, stood up to shake my hand and then settled back down in the chair : “What do you think it means to be a leader?

My tacos would have to wait. Which was a bummer since they do not have a super extensive shelf life to begin with.

Though caught off guard by such a genuine question this late in the interview I was intrigued by the honest curiosity behind it. The questions that job applicants are asking me recently are more challenging and more introspective than any question I would have been empowered or felt entitled to ask when I was a young professional. What is your company culture like? How do you manage people? Why should I work for you? Will I be respected and motivated here? What is your imprint on your community?

Just to name a few super easy questions to answer on the spot while your stomach is audibly trying to add its own commentary to the interview.

I’ll pause briefly now so anyone who might be considering some generational judgements can go ahead and toss them in the trash with my tacos and let’s move on.

I was actually thrilled to answer. There is nothing more rewarding I have experienced in my career than the opportunity to learn from every person I have worked alongside. Working with people that are younger or older than me, from all different stories and backgrounds and walks of life forces me to see the world from a different perspective every day. This is wonderfully challenging and exciting.

So to circle back and answer the question now that I have a full belly and a keyboard:

I believe being a leader means that your ultimate purpose is to facilitate an environment where the people you hire are motivated to exceed their own expectations of themselves.

I believe that being a leader means that you are forever learning from every person in your company. You are humble and you are honestly excited when someone you hire is better at something than you because it is an opportunity to grow.

I believe being a leader is maintaining an environment where open and honest communication is the basis of every opportunity and collaboration.

I believe being a leader is recognizing and appreciating hard work and dedication with the goal of empowering the people invested in your company. Without expecting them to sacrifice themselves for your own vision.

I believe being a leader is having the confidence to stand your ground when it’s necessary to support your team even if it’s uncomfortable.

I believe being a leader is celebrating milestones of achievement in a person’s professional journey and the honor of being a page in their story as they figure out their dreams.

I believe being a leader is trusting the people you hire to fulfill a role without suffocating and micromanaging them. While also holding them accountable to clear and reasonable expectations.

I believe being a leader is not being too pretentious to lead by example.

I could have continued for quite some time but I think the person regretted asking as soon as I began my rant. I offered them the job when I was done with my overindulgent monologue and thankfully they accepted. My tacos did not die in vain!

This topic is one I’m passionate about because I do consider it an honor when people trust me and this company enough to contribute their talents to it. This post is not a brag by any means. It is a promise to myself to work to stay accountable to these beliefs and to share a bit about what I’ve learned along the way. I’ve personally worked for good managers and bad managers. Management and leadership are not the same.
