Ashwood Hall was a magnificent mansion that was built between 1833 and 1837 for Bishop Leonidas Polk and his wife Frances Ann Devereux Polk. It was situated between Columbia and Mt. Pleasant, TN and was gifted to Leonidas by his father, Colonel William Polk. Though Leonidas graduated from West Point, he chose to enter the ministry and moved his family to live on the Ashwood plantation in 1833, while the enormous stone home was under construction.

Ashwood Hall, also known as the "Marble Mansion", was constructed with pale limestone and boasted over 30 rooms. It was a showplace of Greek Revival architecture in early 19th century Tennessee. However, Leonidas sold the estate in 1847 to his brother Andrew Jackson Polk's wife, Rebecca VanLeer Polk, as his duties as a bishop took him elsewhere. The Polk family continued to use Ashwood Hall as one of their homes in the region.

Unfortunately, in 1874, Ashwood Hall was engulfed in flames and was completely destroyed by the intense fire that took hold of the sprawling mansion. The loss was undoubtedly devastating to the Polk family, who had a long history with the property. Though the historic home is now long gone, its prior grandeur is still remembered by the local community through place names like Polk Lane that run near where Ashwood Hall once impressively stood until meeting its untimely demise over a century ago.
