What a fantastic weekend in Columbus at the ADI Beyond the Desk event!

Photos are more or less in reverse order:
1-6: Group photos & candids at the home inspection field trip on Sunday (Photo #4 is the fabulous Bri Bridges, an ADI scholar who’s now a certified residential appraiser in Chicago & ADI spokesperson.)
7: Niesha Hinton, ADI scholar who’s now a certified residential appraiser in Jacksonville and ADI spokesperson
8-11: Scenes from the Saturday sessions and the Friday night networking event
12: Fannie Mae’s fabulous Rachel Beam, who dreamed up the whole ADI project; our own Hal Humphreys; and Freddie Mac’s Scott Reuter, communicator extraordinaire, always kind and patient with his answers—even when folks are getting a little bit fired up.
13: Hal & Fannie Mae’s Sergio Johnson, whose tireless advocacy and careful mentorship make ADI what it is for so many: a career path buoyed by a supportive professional community.

We love spending time with the ADI folks. They are an inspiration—so much hard work and curiosity, the place pulses with hopeful energy.

In real-world appraisal scenarios, some decisions require a judgement call. There may be some institutional guidance on the issue. But sometimes, there's no single correct answer.

In this class, Steve Kahane will put some of these tough questions to the class, share the group's answers, and discuss the consensus (or lack thereof). What he's found in previous live surveys like this is that appraisers often start out very sure of their responses. But 60% change their answers after seeing what their peers had to say.

This class is a chance to see how your colleagues are solving the same problems you encounter every day. It's practical, crowd-sourced intel to help us all get a little closer to agreement on certain calls we make, from quality and condition ratings to what counts as part of GLA. And any move toward consensus helps us uphold the public trust.

Appraisers, get involved! These proposed changes could be game-changing for our profession. No college degree requirement, plus viable alternatives to the supervisor, practicum, or PAREA options. This could open up more viable pathways for appraisers-in-training.

Voice your opinion now on the exposure draft while you can, and help shape our profession. —Bryan Reynolds

GREAT class coming up Wednesday, July 1:

Are you confident that your land value will hold up if it’s reviewed or challenged?

In this class, Marty Wagar will demystify how highest and best use and supported land value work easily together. He’ll take you through a checklist of basic questions to consider while completing an appraisal assignment. By the end of the course, you’ll be able to tell when an assignment includes difficult or ambiguous land value issues — and you’ll know how to tackle them.

AeL partner Hal Humphreys talks with instructor Marty Wagar about h...

UAD 3.6 Bootcamp in Dallas at the Cotality building. Great venue, delicious catered lunches, and a full room of curious folks concentrating hard on a TON of new information about the new URAR and the software that helps you generate these new reports.

Really great, hopeful energy all 3 days: presenters, software providers, and around 110-125 attendees each day.

Larry Roland came from Maine for all three days of the Bootcamp. He’s feeling hopeful about UAD 3.6.
