Did you know National Doughnut Day began in 1938 to honor the Salvation Army volunteers, known as the "Doughnut Lassies," who served fresh doughnuts to soldiers during World War I?

During World War I, the "Donut Lassies" provided an important emotional boost to U.S. soldiers. The doughnuts were "a taste of home" for American soldiers on the battlefield, according to the Salvation Army. What started as a simple act of kindness became a beloved tradition celebrated every year.

Today, we joined in the celebration with some delicious treats from Parlor Doughnuts!
