SOUTHWEST CRESTVIEW BYPASS: Okaloosa County will celebrate the grand opening of the Southwest Crestview Bypass with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, May 1, at 9 a.m. on the newly completed bridge at the north side of the bypass near the corner of U.S. Highway 90 and Enzor Road.

The bypass, completed in phases at a total cost of about $212 million, is the product of a joint effort between Okaloosa County, the Florida Department of Transportation, Triumph Gulf Coast and the City of Crestview to improve traffic flow in and around the Crestview area.

“The vision for this project was recognized years ago by County, City and community leaders who led the way to blaze this new trail for our residents,” Okaloosa County Board Chairman Trey Goodwin said. “I can’t thank our staff and Anderson Columbia enough for all of the great work that has been done and all those who helped piece together the funding for this extraordinary project.”

Motorists will be able to access the bypass beginning at noon on May 1 from Antioch Road on the west, State Road 85 on the east and U.S. Highway 90 from the north.

NEW PINEVIEW SCHOOL: With less than six months until its scheduled opening, Pineview School is taking shape rapidly as construction crews work daily to finish the 1,200-student K-8 campus in north Crestview, officials told the Okaloosa County School Board during a workshop Monday.

Assistant Superintendent Grant Meyer said most of the buildings on the campus are dried in, with interior work including flooring, painting and casework underway in some classroom wings. The cafeteria and kitchen are ahead of schedule, and the media center at the front of the building is progressing, he said.

“It is getting real,” Meyer told board members. “because we have less than six months before we need to open.”

Meyer said crews will continue working through weekends and over spring break to stay on schedule, with plans to push through the summer. The first delivery of furniture could arrive as soon as April in one completed classroom wing, with additional deliveries phased through the summer and into the fall.

Site work is also advancing, with stadium lighting installed at the baseball, softball and track facilities. The track will be an eight-lane facility built to specifications that would allow the district to host district, regional and state tournaments, Meyer said.
