A ride like this takes you back before interstates and hurry became the whole story. There’s something about a real steam train that makes people sit a little straighter and look out the window a little longer.
The Black Hills do most of the talking, but the old railcars and that steady rhythm on the tracks bring their own kind of memory. It feels like summer trips with grandparents, school-day field trips, and a time when getting there was half the fun.
I’ve always liked places that let you slow down without asking permission. A train like this does exactly that, and I’m glad it’s still making the trip.
