When the right rental hits, you don’t want to lose it because you weren’t ready.

Have these things on hand before you apply so you can move fast:

- A valid government-issued ID
- Proof of income (pay stubs, offer letter, or bank statements)
- Contact info for a previous landlord or personal reference
- Your Social Security number for the background and credit check
