Hey just want to give a heads up to other realtors. I had a scammer posing as the owner of two lots in Canyon Lake who wanted to list them. This person was very convincing in the beginning, signed listing contracts by docusign. This owners phone number was not from the state the actual owner lives in. I became suspicious and asked that they send me a pic of their DL. They ignored my request. Meanwhile I put signs on the property. This morning I was going to put the property in MLS, but received a text from the real owner letting me know that the person I had been communicating with was not him. This person apparently tried this same scam on this same property 5 months ago. The neighbor had called and asked if he was selling the lots and that is how he got my info to let me know. Apparently this is going on quite a bit. The scammers usually find empty acreage or lots to do this with. Particularly land owned by out of state owners. So agents, be sure to ask owners for some form of identification.
