Total Geo Data Land Surveying in San Antonio, Texas is looking to add a field crew member to our survey department. Field crew personnel are responsible for assisting a party chief in carrying out projects including boundary surveys, ALTA surveys, easement surveys, right-of way surveys, topographic surveys, GPS control surveys, design surveys, and construction layout/staking. You will be using Survey equipment to measure topographic features and boundary evidence used in transportation, land development, utility, and boundary projects.

Requirements:

⚫Comfortable with outdoors work and manual labor in different terrains and heights
⚫Ability to climb ladders and lift 50 lbs
⚫Ability to carry survey instruments and equipment while walking various distances
⚫Experienced candidates are preferred, training can be provided for candidates with a positive attitude and good work ethic.
⚫Must have a Texas Driver's License with a clean driving record
⚫While we don't get a lot of out of town jobs, occasional overnight stays may be required
⚫Overtime may be required.

Some examples of responsibilities that may be required are:

⚫Assisting crew chief in preparing for daily jobs
⚫Assisting crew chief in carrying out jobs acting as rodman or instrument man
⚫Maintaining and stocking work truck, including restocking necessary supplies
⚫Carrying survey equipment
⚫Cutting brush with machetes and chainsaws
⚫Digging holes to recover monuments or survey markers
⚫Learning how to use high accuracy GPS and laser measurement systems
⚫Learning how to transfer data files from equipment to office staff
Using office computers to complete timesheets
⚫Contacting local supply companies for reordering
⚫Contacting equipment vendors to troubleshoot hardware (when necessary)

Just an FYI for surveyors - NGS and NIST to Retire U.S. Survey Foot after 2022

"This notice announces the final decision to deprecate use of the “U.S. survey foot” on December 31, 2022. Beginning on January 1, 2023, the U.S. survey foot should not be used and will be superseded by the “international foot” definition (i.e., 1 foot = 0.3048 meter exactly) in all applications.

COVID-19 must be taken seriously. Total Geo Data is doing our best to isolate and avoid social contacts. I am working from my home office. The field crew starts the day earlier than the technician. When the tech arrives they are gone. The crew and tech wear masks when they are together. I stay in touch with each of them via phone and email. We wipe down all surfaces and wash our hands regularly. The crew and tech bring food, drinks and snacks from home to avoid stops at any stores or restaurants.
We are not taking any in person meetings with clients at this time.
