The #1 thing to look for in a New Canaan real estate agent (and it's not experience).

Years on a license are easy to put on a bio, but they don't really tell you what working with someone is actually going to feel like, or whether they're going to be the right fit for the move you're about to make.

What matters so much more is finding someone who's truly invested in the outcome.

An agent who takes the time to understand what you're trying to accomplish, communicates clearly through every step of the process, and brings real strategy to every decision you make together along the way.

How someone makes you feel in that very first conversation is going to tell you so much more about them than any stat sheet ever could.

If you're trying to figure out who's actually the right fit before buying or selling in New Canaan, send me a message. I'd love to talk it through with you.

Thinking about moving to New Canaan, CT?

One of the biggest mistakes buyers make is searching for a "neighborhood" that doesn't really exist.

Unlike Greenwich, Darien, or Westport, New Canaan real estate isn't organized around well-defined neighborhood names. Home values, buyer demand, and long-term resale are driven by something much more important:

✔️ Walkability to the village
✔️ Access to top-rated public schools
✔️ Commuting convenience
✔️ Proximity to parks and amenities
✔️ Acreage and land quality

That's why two homes with similar square footage can attract completely different buyers and command very different prices.

New Canaan is one of the most desirable towns in Fairfield County because it combines a walkable downtown, nationally ranked schools, large residential lots, Metro-North commuter access, and one of the most significant collections of Mid-Century Modern architecture in the country.

From iconic architects like Philip Johnson, Eliot Noyes, Marcel Breuer, Landis Gores, and John Johansen to estate properties, family homes, condos, and walk-to-town neighborhoods, New Canaan offers a wide range of lifestyles—but understanding how the town functions is more important than memorizing street names.

The buyers who succeed here don't start with a house.

They start with how they want to live.

Walkability or acreage?

Village access or privacy?

Architectural significance or turnkey convenience?

Those decisions shape value in New Canaan far more than any neighborhood label ever will.

If you're relocating to New Canaan or exploring Fairfield County real estate, understanding the structure of the town before touring homes can save time, money, and costly mistakes.

A good realtor will help you buy a house. A great one will make sure it's actually the right one.

When you're new to buying or selling, it's easy to assume every agent is basically doing the same job.

They show you homes, write offers, hand over keys. But the way an agent actually does that job is what separates a smooth move from a stressful one you're still telling stories about years later.

The best ones treat your move like it's their own. They take the time to understand the way you actually live, they slow you down when you need to be slowed down, and they're still around long after the boxes are unpacked.

That's the kind of agent worth holding out for.

If you're starting to think about a move in New Canaan, CT and want someone who'll be in your corner the whole way through, I'd love to chat.

Philip Johnson Glass House | Grainger House History | New Canaan, Connecticut Architecture & Historic Homes

The Glass House by Philip Johnson in New Canaan, Connecticut opened public tours of the historic Grainger House for the first time. This antique colonial home, originally part of a 250-year-old property, carries nearly 400 years of local history tied to the Finch family who arrived in 1630.

My parents sold Grainger House in 1990 to neighbors Philip Johnson and David Whitney, who restored it back to its original colonial condition—removing modern additions like bathrooms and kitchens and transforming it into an artist studio. The home once featured works by Andy Warhol and Mark Rothko during its time as a creative space.

For decades, the property was too fragile and inaccessible to enter—until now. Visiting it again with my mother brought back memories of growing up in this historic home and hearing her stories from when she lived there.

Grainger House is also believed to be one of the first privately deeded properties in the area, making it a significant piece of Connecticut architectural and cultural history.

A rare moment inside one of New Canaan’s most historic homes connected to the legacy of Philip Johnson, modern art history, and early American colonial settlement.

Wilton is one of those Fairfield County towns you don’t fully understand until you actually drive it.

It’s inland, about 18,000 people, and the geography quietly shapes everything—from commute patterns to where people choose to live.

South Wilton puts you minutes from New Canaan, Route 7, and the Merritt Parkway, which is why many buyers start there when they want Wilton schools without going too far in.

Wilton Center is the functional core—Village Market, Wilton Library, daily errands—and Cannondale is the outlier: a small train village where you can actually walk to the station, which is rare in town.

Head north and everything opens up—more land, more privacy, longer drives, and homes set back into wetlands, ledge, and wooded lots.

Then there’s what really defines Wilton: Weir Farm National Historical Park, Merwin Meadows, Ambler Farm, and a strong community infrastructure built around schools, trails, and local institutions.

With a single school system, strong public schools, and 2-acre zoning shaping development, Wilton stays intentionally low-density and residential by design.

It’s not a coastal town. It’s not trying to be.

It’s space, schools, and structure—and that’s exactly why people choose it.

What makes Old Greenwich one of the most desirable coastal communities in Connecticut?

It starts with location.

Old Greenwich is a waterfront village in Greenwich, CT, centered around Sound Beach Avenue—a walkable downtown filled with local favorites, coffee shops, restaurants, and small businesses that give the neighborhood its character.

Then there’s the commute. Metro-North trains from Old Greenwich Station reach Grand Central in about 47–55 minutes, making it a popular choice for NYC commuters looking for a coastal lifestyle without giving up convenience.

And of course, there’s Greenwich Point Park (Tod’s Point). With 147 acres of beaches, walking trails, and Long Island Sound views, it’s one of the most valuable lifestyle amenities in Fairfield County.

Add highly rated Greenwich public schools, charming historic homes, tight housing inventory, and a true neighborhood feel, and it’s easy to see why demand remains strong.

If you're considering moving to Greenwich, CT, Old Greenwich offers a unique combination of beach access, commuter convenience, excellent schools, and small-town charm.

Would you choose the beach, the train, or Sound Beach Avenue?
