Icicles can not only be dangerous if they fall from your roof (remember Ralphie from The Christmas Story), but they can also cause damage to your home. As snow melts on a warm roof, and flows down to a cold eave it refreezes. This creates a buildup of ice at your eaves and gutter. The problem with this is, shingles are designed to shed water, not hold water. Water sitting on your shingles will get underneath them and possibly into your home. If this is happening to you, contact your local roofing company for help.

Please take a look at your vents. While your at it, also test your carbon monoxide detectors. Stay safe everyone!

With heavy snow expected please make sure your exhaust vents for your furnace, hot water heater, and any other appliances are clear. If they become blocked by snow they could potentially cause deadly carbon monoxide to build up in your house.

Carpenter bees make perfectly round holes in wooden structures and cause damage just like termites. If you see holes like these proceed with caution and contact your local pest control company.

Great article regarding the process of a home inspection. I also stress to my clients about addressing the cause of the issue, and not necessarily the issue itself. There might not be a need to install an expensive french drain in your basement when you are missing downspout extensions outside.

Everyone be sure to check those sump pumps in your basement. With more rain on the way be sure to check on it frequently to be sure your basement stays dry.

Did you know a dirty furnace filter can cause your furnace to stop working. A good schedule to change your filter is every 3 months. An easy to remember timeline is New Years, Easter, 4th of July, Halloween.
