Breaking ground in Dallas, Knox & McKinney is a 12-story boutique office and luxury retail destination at a prominent corner in the Knox Street neighborhood. This building, designed by Pickard Chilton in partnership with HKS, brings together 280,000 square feet of premier office space with curated ground floor retail and dining. Hospitality inspired amenities, including a high-end fitness center, tenant lounge, expansive terraces, and conference spaces, support a more flexible and elevated workplace experience. DPR Construction is serving as the general contractors, and the project is under development by Trammell Crow Company, BDT & MSD Partners, Gillon Property Group, The Summers Group, and The Retail Connection.

With its high-performance facade, natural stone detailing, and sweeping curved glass, the tower is shaped to capture panoramic views and contribute to the energy of the surrounding neighborhood. Ideally positioned near the Katy Trail and the growing mix of shops and restaurants along Knox Street, the project reflects the continued evolution of this vibrant part of the district.

Last Thursday our Pickard Chilton team, in collaboration with our partner Dana McKinney-White of Studio Kinn and the team at Levine Museum of the New South hosted an incredible public event for our new museum building project, engaging the community in dialogue about the New South, the neighborhood, and our design aspirations for the future of the museum. We heard many meaningful and informative stories and learned about the collective dreams and hopes for the South End and Charlotte.

We’re grateful to be working with such dedicated and knowledgeable partners at the museum and to have the opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the future and culture of the museum and the neighborhood. It is an incredibly exciting opportunity to create an anchoring cultural institution for the neighborhood and to hear directly from the people whose histories, families, and heritages shape the mission of the museum.

As architects, we know how meaningful it is to have ownership over your space. Our design practice is rooted in collaboration: listening, responding, and ensuring everyone has a seat at the table - giving people a voice in their building. We’re excited to deliver the museum’s new home and looking forward to working with this amazing group going forward!

Office lobbies are undergoing a fundamental transformation.

Once conceived merely as thresholds, they have evolved into true “third spaces” — places between work and home that support connection, flexibility, and active use.

In this article, Principal Adrienne Nelson AIA, IIDA explores how hospital-driven design is animating the modern lobby through warm daylight, rich materiality, and flexible programming. In doing so, they extend the life of the street into the building, blurring the boundary between public and private and enriching the experience of work within the city. As shifting retail demands reshape expectations, the once-humble lobby has emerged as a critical site of architectural and urban opportunity.
