So just for reference for those of you that feel like opening up a root ball hurts plants...this is what happened when you do cut the roots and open it up. This is one hardy Hawthorn!! It isn’t growing well and has lots of damage and is in the poorest soil ever! It will be so much happier once it’s rooted out again. Even with annuals and perennials you have to open the roots.

For those of you that think w**d mat or plastic keeps w**ds at bay. This is incorrect. I have pulled up 2 layers of thick plastic that tree roots, w**ds and grass have just grown over. W**d barrier is the lazy mans answer. Just pull the w**ds people juat pull them.
Also all week I have been preping a veggi garden for next year, it also had silt fence and cloth w**d barrier, w**ds found the holes in 3 layers and grew huge!!

This is why I stress to people, dont put mint in the ground. This is what grammies mint did in 4 months in a pot with a huge petunia.
