Lowe’s CEO Marvin Ellison announced a bold investment initiative aimed at addressing the growing skills gap in the trades industry. Over the course of 10 years, the company committed $250 million to train 250,000 workers in skilled trades such as electrical work, plumbing, and carpentry. This move was in direct response to the rising demand for skilled labor, which Ellison emphasized could not be replaced by artificial intelligence. In an interview, Ellison shared his perspective on the limitations of AI, noting that while AI can automate tasks like writing emails, it cannot replicate the hands-on expertise needed for complex tasks like fixing roofs or performing electrical work. His comments underscored Lowe's commitment to adapting to technological advancements while preserving the vital human skills essential to the trades.

At a time when many industries are grappling with automation, the need for skilled workers remains steadfast. Through this initiative, Lowe’s aimed not only to fill the workforce gap but also to ensure that the next generation of tradespeople would be well-equipped with the knowledge and experience necessary to thrive in their careers. Lowe’s commitment went beyond job creation; it emphasized a long-term investment in supporting communities and developing a workforce capable of succeeding in a world where certain jobs would never be automated.

History is important — but what happens after history is made may matter just as much. Former President Barack Obama has officially announced that the Obama Presidential Center in Chicago will open to the public on June 19, 2026, intentionally aligning with Juneteenth, a day deeply tied to freedom, progress, and reflection. For many, the center represents more than a tribute to a presidency — it represents possibility. ❤️

The campus is being designed as more than a museum. Alongside exhibits about Obama’s life and legacy, visitors will find spaces built for community: a branch of the Chicago Public Library, reading areas, a playground, and a community garden meant to bring people together. The goal is not simply to look back at the past, but to create a place where people of all ages can learn, connect, and grow.

Obama has long said this project was meant to give back to the community, and plans for free admission days for Illinois residents reflect that vision. In many ways, the center aims to become something larger than a landmark — a space where history inspires future generations to imagine what is possible for themselves and for the communities around them. 🙌

James Talarico: "The reason poverty exists is not because we can't feed the poor, it's because we can't satisfy the rich. That's exactly what we're seeing with Elon Musk becoming the first ever trillionaire."

Do you agree with his perspective?
