A Legacy of Craftsmanship Since 1810

This invoice from June 19, 1810 marks the beginning of a rich tradition—$407 worth of expert woodworking by our founder, Etienne Bertel, for the City of New Orleans.

Just a year later, in 1811, the Bertel brothers—Etienne, Jacques, Jean Baptiste, and Jean Prudence—established their cabinetmaking business at Toulouse & Chartres Streets in the French Quarter. Over 200 years later, we proudly carry on their legacy, crafting custom, handcrafted millwork from our Toulouse Street workshop in Mid City for property owners and builders across the Gulf Coast & Southeast.

As co-founder of Toulouse St Millworks, Mike Bertel is dedicated to preserving New Orleans' architectural heritage. Descended from master woodworkers dating back to 1810, he combines traditional techniques with modern innovation.

Mike leads the team in partnership with Caroline Rogers, manages client relations, and ensures every project reflects our commitment to excellence. When not overseeing custom millwork, he takes care of the family's 120-acre farm in Poplarville, MS, continuing a tradition of sustainability and care.
