Looks like the $45 million in insurance incentives is on the way, but fortifying our homes to mitigate damage is the only sustainable way to keep homeowner’s insurance rates reasonable enough to afford housing.

Tenants are massively effected as well, as rising costs are often added directly to rent.

With more insurance options, you might be able to find policies cheaper then you currently have, in the near future.

If you need some referrals, of course, I can send you some good people out there.


More than 20 companies folded or fled the state, and more than 100,000 policyholders are once again covered only by Citizens, and paying rapidly rising rates.

Here’s an update on the current homeowner’s/wind and hail insurance issues we are facing in Louisiana and NOLA. Hopefully we can get a special session immediately to address the challenges of affordability in the housing market.

Insurers purchase their own reinsurance to spread their liability so they can write more policies.
Because of the frequency of damaging storms, the cost of reinsurance has skyrocketed, and insurers cannot write as many policies, forcing many customers onto the state’s insurer of last resort, Citizen’s fair plan.

AND…Citizen’s just went up 63%.

Buyers, sellers, renters and lessors, basically everyone is affected by this , so stay tuned.

Of course, we still have some good people, writing policies, and getting creative to increase affordability. The rating of the company is a major factor too. DM me if you need any recommendations on insurance providers. Or of course 504-239-4589.
