Middle-class incomes are losing the battle against rising costs in most of the country, but Louisiana and Mississippi stand out as the only two states where incomes grew at least 10% more than the cost of living between 2019 and 2024, according to a new analysis from MoneyLion. Both states benefit from median home list prices well below the national median of $429,500, at $275,000 and $299,000 respectively, keeping overall living costs in check even as incomes rose.
