A major change in mortgage credit scoring could matter for your next home purchase.

VantageScore 4.0 is now an option for all Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac approved lenders on eligible loans. It considers credit patterns over time and can include reported rent and utility payments, potentially giving buyers with limited credit history a fuller financial picture.

If credit has held you back, this is worth a new conversation with your lender. Ask: “Do you offer VantageScore 4.0, and could it affect my mortgage options?”

Availability varies, and a different score doesn’t guarantee approval or a lower rate. But knowing what to ask can help you better understand your options.
